Why 9 Months Is So Significant

Updated: May 19, 2024

The moment one develops in their mother’s womb, growth and development begin and continue after birth. However, some individuals experience delays in their development, and they may need ABA services. Thus, monitoring a child’s developmental milestones is vital to spot delays in development and provide early intervention through ABA services.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) suggests that your child undergo developmental and behavioral screening as early as 9 months. When you do not see them developing these milestones, it is time to seek help from children's healthcare providers

  • Social and Emotional Milestones By 9 months, you should observe the following: looking at you when you call their name, reacting when you leave like crying and looking for you, and showing several facial expressions like happy, sad, angry, and surprised.

  • Cognitive Milestones  A 9-month-old child can bang two things together and look for objects when dropped out of sight.

  • Physical Development Milestones A child should be able to sit on their own, move things from one hand to the other, and use their fingers to grab food toward himself

  • Language and Communication Milestones A child should be able to make many different sounds like “mamamama” and “babababa” and lift their arms to be picked up.

If you observe that your child has not achieved these milestones, seek assistance with Potterhouse Behavioral Health Services. Contact us today!
